Leaving your mark

People move through your life.

You move through other people’s lives.

You connect with people along the way.

Some for a short time.

Some longer.

A few, a lifetime.

They all leave their mark.

The pearls of wisdom.

The helping hand.

The advice and guidance.

The optimism and positivity.

The learning and living.

The laughter.

The love.

You still have so many more opportunities to connect.

How will you leave your mark?

“If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” – Maya Angelou

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” – Pericles

Maintain the dialogue

You will need to work at it.

You may need to instigate or initiate.

To keep the channels of communication open.

You might have enthralling conversations.

Perhaps disagreements and debates.

Contemplations, considerations and consultations.

Be in wild agreement and discuss wild ideas.

All is available when the channel is open.

None of it can happen if it is closed.

You will need to work at it.

Maintain the dialogue.

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” — George Bernard Shaw

“The most important thing in communication is to hear what is not said” — Peter Drucker

“The key to handling problems and conflict within an organization is to keep the channels of communication wide open.” — Anita Roddick

Can you help …?

There is the offering of help.

The offer made on your own terms.

It’s easy to make the offer.

There’s the request for help.

That comes from them.

A little harder, but you still have control over the how.

Then there’s the request for help that is hard.

The type of request you would rather not do.

And you do it anyway.

Otherwise, they’d be stuck.

Because they would suffer great difficulty.

Your small inconvenience will avoid a major one for them.

So you help.

Because you can.

“Helping others is the way we help ourselves.” — Oprah Winfrey

“Life is short. Help more people.” — Robin Sharma

When the plan just works

There are plenty of times when it doesn’t go to plan.

We learn and we improve.

Then maybe, just maybe, it all clicks.

And it’s awesome when it all comes together.

It was thoroughly planned out.

Everyone was engaged in the process.

Everything was prepared well.

Everyone understood their role.

It was executed to perfection.

But there are still learnings to be captured.

Like, how can we can do that again?

“Plan your work and work your plan.” — Napoleon Hill

“I love it when a plan comes together” — A-Team leader Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith (George Peppard)
