Drinking from the fire hydrant

When drinking from a fire hydrant, not very much goes in.

When inundated with a heap of information, the same.

What if there were a selection of drinks?

Offerings matched to the capacity of the individual.

Somewhere between fire hydrant and drip feed.

“Getting information off the Internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant.” – Mitchell Kapor

“Too much information can be as disconcerting as too little.” – Patricia Wentworth

Habit 7 … a reminder

Take some time out.

Preferably before juggling balls start to drop.

Before the thinking get blurred.

Before performance is impacted.

Take some time out.

To renew.

To regenerate.

Recharge.

To sharpen the saw.

Take care of the body.

Nurture relationships and the heart.

Feed the mind.

Cultivate the spirit.

You’re no good to anyone if you burn yourself out.

“Renewal is the principle—and the process—that empowers us to move on an upward spiral of growth and change, of continuous improvement.” — Dr. Stephen R. Covey

You get to pull the levers

Things will not always go to plan.

There will be times when it will all go sideways.

Off the rails.

Pear-shaped.

You will have to deal with things that are here and now.

Things that are making an impact and perhaps outside your control.

Though you get to pull the levers within your control.

And you have more levers available than you initially thought.

You get to manage with all the levers you have.

“I’m always tweaking, always trying to make it better, constantly moving the levers and dials.” — Steve Ells

“The mightiest lever known to the world: imagination.” —  William Wordsworth

Continue to strive

The achievement is greater than anything accomplished before.

Celebrate the success.

It was however, still short of the goal.

Learn and improve.

Then continue to strive and do better again.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

“The extra energy required to make another effort is the secret of winning.” – Denis Waitley
