Mindset

Shoulder surgery on HorrieM’s dominant right arm has put the ability to illustrate on hiatus for six weeks. So we’ll be delving into the archives and returning to where it all started with the first six posts of the HorrieM Blog. Both the writing style and illustrations have evolved over the years. Looking back, everything is a bit raw and a little cringeworthy … but what the heck!

[Week 6 of 6] My posts tend to be short on verbiage. However, this would have to be one of the shortest I have ever done. (That anyone has ever done?) It appears I may have dedicated more time to the illustration and had some fun with it. Okay, this preamble is outweighing the featured post itself and just needs to stop.

Feeling boxed in

[Week 5 of 6] Okay … having a play around with some additional characters and the paint brush feature for day five of the original 30 posts in 30 days challenge. If you look closely, the guy with the moustache has the same head as the blue man, ha! The message remains a good one. Anyone feeling boxed in?

Have you defined your own box?

Have others defined the box for you?

Are there others defining a new box for you?

A box that still isn’t yours?

Break the mould.

Do it your way.

Don’t let others box you in.

Don’t box yourself in.

How important is it?

[Week 4 of 6] This would have been day four of the 30 posts in 30 days challenge. There was an intention from the outset to develop a practice, sometimes at the expense of the product. After all, no one even knew I had a blog at this stage. I think it’s safe to say, this is not some of my best work. I’m restraining myself to fix it. Short on words and some simple shapes drawn quickly. “The blue man” is starting to morph into what he will later become, though he seems a bit short changed for legs at this point. Still, this again resonates with current circumstances.

So … is it important?

How important?

If important enough, time will make way for it.

Amazing how the time can be found when it’s important enough.

Little Wins

[Week 3 of 6] It appears “the blue man” did own a shirt at one stage … huh! Day three of the 30 posts in 30 days challenge introduced the first instance of what has become the usual left justified, almost poem-like writing style. Though I can’t remember exactly, I suspect inspiration came from a second consecutive day at the gym (that I also suspect didn’t last) and having a real conversation with a teenage daughter.

Celebrate the little wins:

  • Consecutive days at the gym
  • A small client
  • The first step in learning something new
  • A conversation with your teenage daughter
  • The first course of a qualification
  • Introducing a small change
  • Reading the first chapter
  • The first down payment
  • Saving a small amount
  • The first day of a new habit

Little wins lead to progress and bigger wins.
