“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

The right people in the room

You will need all the right people in the room (metaphorically).

Otherwise, you’re not going to get the right outcome.

You will probably have to come back and do it again.

Or catch them up, individually.

Then get everyone back together again anyway.

It may take longer to get all the right people in the room from the beginning.

But once you have, then you will be able to progress faster.

“Have the right people in the right places, working together.” — Roger Staubach

“Meetings should have as few people as possible, but all the right people.” — Charles W. Scharf

That doesn’t mean you should stop

Imparting knowledge doesn’t necessarily mean it will be used.

Sharing the roadmap doesn’t guarantee it will be followed.

Writing in down doesn’t mean it will be read.

Preparing the proposal doesn’t mean it will be accepted.

Providing guidance and advice doesn’t mean it is heeded.

But that doesn’t mean you should stop.

“The good news is that more than ever, value accrues to those that show up, those that make a difference, those that do work that matters.” — Seth Godin

“If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.” — Margaret Fuller

Question everything

Why is it done that way?

Why is it done at all?

What if it can be done another way?

What else could we try?

How does it work?

How can it go faster?

Or slower?

Who owns that process?

Who else can assist?

When can it be delivered?

When will we start?

Or finish?

“The important thing is not to stop questioning.” — Albert Einstein

“Assume nothing, question everything.” — James Patterson

“The common question that gets asked in business is, ‘why?’ That’s a good question, but an equally valid question is, ‘why not?’” — Jeff Bezos
