Growth

Choose your next step

You have been given an opportunity to stretch yourself.

To rise to a challenge.

To really make a difference.

You could choose to worry about what might go wrong.

How it could all be too much.

To make a false step.

Or you could choose to focus on what will go right.

How you can raise the bar.

To step up.

You get to choose your next step.

“Many a false step was made by standing still.” – Chinese proverb

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.” – Paulo Coelho, author of the “The Alchemist”

Get curious. Be curious. Stay curious.

Be inquisitive.

Find out how it works.

Keep learning.

Try new things.

Mentally and physically explore.

Stay fresh.

Seek understanding.

Follow the fascination.

Study and absorb.

Pursue the answers.

Obtain new information.

Have new experiences.

Invest in investigation.

Get curious.

Be curious.

Stay curious.

“It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” – Albert Einstein

“Curiosity is the engine of achievement.” – Ken Robinson.

“Curiosity is the most powerful thing you own. Imagination is a force that can actually manifest a reality.” – James Cameron

Just keep going!

Keep learning.

Keep creating.

Keep connecting.

Keep pushing.

Keep producing.

Keep moving.

Keep stretching.

Keep evolving.

Keep growing.

Keep at it.

Just keep going!

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney

“Keep challenging yourself to think better, do better, and be better.” – Robin Sharma

Think back, then think forward

Think back.

There was something you once thought you could not do.

Something you once believed you were not up for.

You presumed or assumed it was beyond you.

You could not imagine yourself doing it.

And then you did it.

Perhaps not straight away.

It may have taken practice.

Or just a surge of courage.

There is something perhaps now you cannot imagine doing.

Something you are struggling with at the moment.

Think forward.

You’ll be doing it.

“When our attitudes outdistance our abilities, even the impossible becomes possible.” – John C. Maxwell

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela

Find your element

Be original.

Do something original.

Free your spirit.

Feed your spirit.

Fuel your passion.

Find what you are good at.

Find what works for you.

Create the conditions.

Do it your way.

Find your element.

“The Element is the meeting point between natural aptitude and personal passion.” – Ken Robinson, author of “The Element” and “Finding Your Element”.

Keep reinventing

This didn’t work.

That didn’t come off.

There might be something in that.

It’s just not working yet.

It requires some more thought.

Might need to look at that differently.

Continue to innovate.

Adapt.

Keep reinventing.

Yourself.

Your model.

Your offerings.

Products.

Projects.

Keep going.

The landscape has changed.

Then again, it always has.

“For the world has changed and we must change with it.” – Barack Obama

“Your power to choose your direction of your life allows you to reinvent yourself, to change your future, and to powerfully influence the rest of creation.” – Stephen R. Covey

The challenge of rising

Are you rising to the challenge?

Challenges arise every day.

Some small.

Many large.

How are you choosing to tackle them?

By problem solving.

Experimenting.

Making tough decisions.

With curiosity.

Head on.

Slowly, but surely.

By learning.

Thinking it through.

With confidence.

Taking action.

One step at a time.

Persistence.

By testing your own limit …

… and finding it well past where you initially thought it to be.

“Challenges are solved by rising to a level higher than the challenge.” – Deepak Chopra

“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.” – Seneca

Mind your mind

Your mind is accumulating what you put into it.

So, here is a quick mind self-assessment?

What were the last three books you read?

(Separate into fiction and nonfiction if you like.)

Last three podcasts listened to?

Last three documentaries watched?

Last three television shows viewed (binged)?

Last three articles read?

Last three blog posts?

(This one included.)

Last three stage performances?

Last three movies viewed?

The last three songs listened to?

(Not sure we do albums anymore.)

Last three minutes on each social media platform?

The last three conversations?

There really is no right or wrong.

The answers might affect your next three though.

“Your mind will give back to you exactly what you put into it.” – James Joyce

“You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.” – Zig Ziglar

Your capacity and capability

You have capacity.

You didn’t think you would.

But you’re doing it.

You will have the capacity for more.

You have the capability.

You didn’t believe you could.

But you are.

You are capable of much more.

Capacity – The maximum amount that something can contain.

Capability – The power or ability to do something.

(Oxford Dictionary)

“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“If we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.” – Thomas A. Edison.

Will you be the same person in ten years?

It is likely you are not the same person you were five years ago.

Even if you did nothing, you’ve had to adapt.

To changes in your environment.

To new technology.

To a new role or a change of circumstance.

It is very likely you are not the same person you were ten years ago.

Or fifteen, or twenty.

(You can keep going depending on how many years ‘experience’ you are.)

You may have been very deliberate with what you have done.

With the learning, the experiences and challenges sought out.

You will very likely not be the same person ten years from now.

What you do between now and then is up to you.

Be intentional with your growth.

“If you want to reach your goals and fulfil your potential, become intentional about your personal growth. It will change your life.” – John Maxwell

“Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.” – Karen Kaiser Clark
