Are you consistent?

Are you known for being consistent?

Consistency is usually viewed as a positive, isn’t it?

So, would you like to be known for being consistently …

… late?

… tired?

… angry?

… rude?

… rushed?

… unreliable?

… unprepared?

… inappropriate?

… inconsiderate?

Or, would you prefer to be known for being consistently …

… punctual?

… forthcoming?

… insightful?

… focused?

… energising?

… reliable?

… prepared?

… engaging?

… dependable?

It’s a choice.

Be intentional about the consistency you would like to be known for.

What’s beyond the comfort zone?

What is inside your comfort zone?

You will likely find confidence, contentment and consistency.

And not surprisingly…comfort.

You might also find boredom, mediocrity and limitations.

Perhaps even a yearning for something more.

So what is beyond your comfort zone?

Anxiety?  Probably.

Fear?  You bet.

Challenges?  Yep!

And there is also learning.

Opportunity.

Experiences.

Growth.

Beyond the comfort zone is your own growth.

Nowhere else.

Experience leaves clues

Experience and clues.

Be on the lookout for them.

Who has been where you would like to go?

Who has done the hard miles?

Who is well respected in your chosen field?

They will provide many clues.

What they say.

What they do (…what they don’t do).

How they do it.

They may not realise they are dropping clues.

The knowledge and experience has become so ingrained.

Just listen and learn.

Experience leaves clues.

Mind-full-ness

The mind gets full.

There can be a lot of thoughts running around inside your head.

When the mind gets full, awareness and attention suffer.

Less attention is paid to surroundings.

To others

To ourself.

To the moment.

When thoughts and worry start to overwhelm,

that is paradoxically the time to pause and slow down.

Mindfulness is the remedy for mind-full-ness.

Rising to the challenge

Challenges come in all shapes and forms.

The difficult situation.

Delivering a deal.

A sudden change.

Time constraints.

Doing something for the first time.

A new opportunity.

Problems and complications.

Increased responsibility.

Fulfilling your potential.

How will you approach it?

Retreat and retract?

Or do you rise to the challenge?

Action will fix it

Action will fix it.

It is the only thing that ever will.

Ignoring it doesn’t make it go away.

That’s inaction.

Yes, by all means, think through the options and scenarios.

But just thinking about it won’t fix it.

Yes, of course decide what needs to be done.

But deciding doesn’t fix it.

Yes, make a plan.

But planning by itself isn’t going to fix it.

Action will fix it.

Directed and intentional action.

Got anything you want to fix?

Do what you can with what you’ve got

Whatever you are doing, do it well.

No need to wait to do it better.

Waiting for that “better” role, project or task to come along.

Do what you can with what you’ve got.

Do the absolute best you can.

When you do that, something happens.

You will start to get more.

You will be able to do more.

You will be able to do it even better.

So the time to do the best you can is now.

Always now.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Select that one thing

There is an ever growing “to do” list.

There are too many commitments.

There is always more to do than time permits.

Everything is urgent.

All of it matters.

However, you can only ever do one thing at a time.

So be intentional.

Select that one wisely.
