Confidence

Imagine if the worrying stopped

The worrying for something fictional.

The downside dramatised.

It hasn’t happened yet.

And it may not happen at all (it regularly doesn’t).

Yet we’re acting as if it will, or has, happened.

It’s an imagined outcome.

Stop worrying about stuff that hasn’t happened yet.

“There are more things, Lucilius, likely to frighten us than there are to crush us; we suffer more often in imagination than in reality.” – Seneca

“Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems.” – Epictetus

Not with that attitude

Negativity will affect your outlook.

How you tackle new things.

Whether you’ll even attempt to tackle new things.

Negativity limits energy.

Reduces motivation.

It’s draining.

Negativity increases a challenge.

Is less accommodating.

Makes change harder.

Negativity is an attitude.

Negativity is a choice.

So is positivity.

“It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome.” – William James

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

The continuum of clarity

It might be a little vague.

Be lacking clarity.

Don’t worry.

You may have a bit of an idea.

A general direction.

Don’t worry.

The definition will come.

The details will be fleshed out.

The scope will become clear.

Don’t worry.

You will work it through.

And work thought it.

You will just need to be comfortable with the areas of grey along the way.

Don’t worry … you’ve done it before.

“In a world of increasing grey areas, we are becoming more and more entrenched in black and white positions.” – Paul Bettany

“Most of life is grey, with a little tiny bit of black and white.” – Bill Henson

Play your own game

Make sure you know the rules of the game before you start playing.

You will not be able to change the rules if things don’t go your way.

Or you can start a new game.

A variation of the original, or something completely different.

A game where you get to make the rules.

“Life is a game, and it’s much more fun if you play it as your own game, so stay light and loose and relaxed.” – Bill Murray

“Treat your life like a game.” – Ray Dalio, billionaire hedge fund manager, philanthropist and author of “Principles: Life & Work”

Second guessing

Where does the second guess come from?

Critical self-talk?

Being a perfectionist?

Low confidence?

The pessimist within?

Wherever it originates, stop the self-sabotage.

Be positive.

Be confident.

Trust yourself.

You know the right course of action.

You have ability and capability.

Stop second guessing yourself.

Go for it!

“Accept the fact that you’re an artist and stop second-guessing yourself. Just do it.” – Julia Cameron, author of “The Artist’s Way”

“Don’t second guess the mistakes you’ve made, others will do that for you. Make things as simple as possible, but not simpler.” – Albert Einstein
