Just start!

Shoulder surgery on HorrieM’s dominant right arm has put the ability to illustrate on hiatus for six weeks. So we’ll be delving into the archives and returning to where it all started with the first six posts of the HorrieM Blog. Both the writing style and illustrations have evolved over the years. Looking back, everything is a bit raw and a little cringeworthy … but what the heck!
[Week 1 of 6] The very first blog post was the result of a New Year’s resolution following years of wanting to start a blog … unsuccessfully. It was some needed self-talk with a little exasperation.

No more excuses.  It doesn’t have to be perfect.

The procrastination can go on no longer.  There is now pain associated with further procrastination.  Pain that is now outweighing the fear of launching.

The sock drawer has been sorted.  The contents of the pantry and fridge checked several times.  The answer is still not in there.

There is nothing to fear.  There has never been anything to fear.  The launch cannot fail, unless it fails to launch.  So get on with it.

Just start.

As it ends … so it starts

So how did you go?

Did you try?

Did you learn something?

Have you lived as fully as you could?

Did you push yourself?

Have you changed anything?

For yourself?

For others?

Did you do something?

Did you make mistakes?

Good!

Let’s go do it again.

“I hope that this year, you make mistakes. If you do, then it means you have tried, learned, lived, pushed yourself, changed you and your world, and most importantly, you’ve done something.” — Neil Gaiman

You are nearly at the finish, but …

The end is in sight.

You are nearing the finish line.

Keep pushing.

Don’t lose form.

Maintain your breathing.

Finish strongly.

Run through the finish line.

Then get ready for the next event.

“There are times when you run a marathon and you wonder, Why am I doing this? But you take a drink of water, and around the next bend, you get your wind back, remember the finish line, and keep going.” – Steve Jobs

“Resistance is greatest just before the finish line.” – Steven Pressfield

“There is no finish line. When you reach one goal, find a new one.” – Chuck Norris

Happy New You

There is something psychological about a new year.

A sense that things can be different.

A chance to make a fresh start.

Start anew.

But it’s all a bit arbitrary.

There isn’t much difference between the final day of a year and first day of a new year.

Unless you choose there to be something different.

Yes, you get to choose.

You could have started yesterday.

You could begin tomorrow.

Or now.

You can choose to be a better you anytime.

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

You need enough to start

Something needs to change.

You’ve just had enough.

Enough of the current situation.

Getting the same result.

Or even inconsistent results.

Are you ready to do what is required?

Do you understand what it will mean?

Good!

Then you’re more likely to realise the change.

You’ll be motivated to keep going when it gets hard.

To push through setbacks.

You’ve had enough.

Enough is all you need to start.

“They say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” – Andy Warhol

“If you want something you’ve never had. You must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” – Thomas Jefferson
